JUAN MATUTE

Juan Matute first achieved prominence in 1982 in world championships and as a young rider in show jumping competitions. He was a member of the Spanish Dressage Team at the Seoul, Barcelona and Atlanta Olympic Games and the European Championships in Luxembourg in 1995.
    In 1987-1988, he studied in Germany with Herbert Rehbein and has been named Spanish National Dressage Champion five times.
    He is a member of the Dressage Commission at the National Spanish Federation, is technical director of the Spanish Center Cabaex for PRE breeding and exporting, and conducts national and international dressage clinics and seminars. He is also responsible for training and exporting PRE horses for dressage such as Gaucho III, grand prix level, now in Florida; Bizarro, finalist at the ANCCE finals in 2000; and Mulato (Marqués de Velilla), winner of silver and bronze medal at the ANCCE finals in 1999.
    Juan continues to train and compete in Europe, and is a member of the Spanish Dressage Team. He hopes to compete in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. Currently he is the coach for the Spanish Young Rider Team.
    Juan's style of teaching is very compatible with both German and Spanish classical dressage principles. He speaks English fluently and energizes his students. He has a particular talent for teaching piaffe, passage and upper level movements.

 

KATHLEEN RAINE

Kathleen Raine helped the USET win the team
Bronze Medal for the Dressage World Championship at the 1994 World
Equestrian Games in Holland. She was the U.S. League Final Reserve Champion
in 1994 and finished sixth overall at the Dressage World Cup Final in
Gothenburg, Sweden.

While competing abroad in 1995, Raine was also a team Bronze Medalist at
Rotterdam and finished first in the Grand Prix Freestyle at CDI
Donaueschingen.
On U.S. soil, Raine has added many impressive wins to her career
accomplishments. In 1999, she won the Grand Prix at Dressage at
Indio.

In 1996, she won the Miller's/USET Grand Prix qualifier at Del Mar Dressage
and Los Angeles CDI. In 1995, she was also victorious in both
the Grand Prix and Freestyle at Paddock CDI-W. In addition, she
won the Grand Prix Freestyle at DG Bar Ranch Show and the Grand Prix Special
at CDI-W Flintridge.
Raine began competing in dressage after graduating from high school and has
been coached by Olympic veteran Hilda Gurney, Johann Hinnemann and
Dennis Callin. She resides Temecula, CA, with her husband
David Wightman, who also competes in dressage.















CONRAD SHUMACHER

A former German national dressage team member, Conrad Schumacher trained under the late German World Championship and Olympic medalist Josef Neckermann from 1968 to 1978. After winning the Hessen State Championships in 1982, he has focused on teaching and coaching. Among his famous are German native Sven Rothenberger, who won team silver and individual bronze medals for the Netherlands at the 1996 Olympic games; Rothenberger's wife and 1996 Olympic teammate Gonnelien Gordijn-Rothenberger; and Dutch rider Ellen Bontje, who won team silver at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
    Since 1991, Conrad has given clinics to up-and-coming talent in the U.S. Dressage Federation's Junior/Young Rider Program. He conducted the 1999 USDF National Dressage Symposium and in 2002, he presented the inaugural Kentucky Horse Park Dressage Symposium. He has since given USDF Instructor Training Workshops and continues to coach American Advanced Young Riders to numerous medals at the North American Young Riders Championships.
